The new album from The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel

Now in stock!

On October 15 – 16, 2024, a Congress was held in a great Temple of Sound.

With Bernie Dresel as Captain at the helm, this Clipper ship was deftly and gracefully navigated on an epic adventure that harkens back to the golden era of music and production. He provides the guidance and the driving energy that propels this ensemble forward with kinetic force.

The power and the majesty that the big band format can create requires delicate care in its capture; it is a temperamental, fire-breathing, wild beast that may tolerate confinement for a short time, but ultimately demands to be free and wild; untethered – released.

This jazz orchestra is comprised of 16 seasoned pros on the Los Angeles studio scene. The sound has a contemporary and dynamic energy with a focused edge to it that is like no other combo. At times, it is reminiscent of drummer-led ensembles of the past. The instrumental makeup is unique in that there is no piano, but jazz/rockin’ acoustic and electric guitar instead.

Deluxe Edition: 1x 12” LP, 180g vinyl, black – Ships 29th April 2025 – available to order now!

From the album Number One Son

Prodigious musicians from far and wide gathered to interpret the scriptures; wonderful compositions and extraordinary arrangements that were performed and captured live in-studio by uber-talented creative technologists in order to provide the listener with an unparalleled musical enjoyment and superior sonic experience.

This recording stands as a testimony, a documentation, a tribute, and above all, a living legacy to vintage recording technology and the outstanding individuals who know how to work it, the composers, the arrangers, the amazing musicians and most importantly, one of the greatest American treasures, Big Band Jazz.

A huge thank you to all of the wonderful individuals who came together and collaborated freely to make this project happen; your spirit illuminates this record.

To the listener, cherish this art, for it is sacred.

This album absolutely kills! Not a bad track on either side.

Brian Scanlon’s arrangement of Sentimental Journey proves that there’s always room for a new spin on things!

G Squared Boogie harkens back to memories of Bernie’s days with BRIAN Setzer Orchestra.

The recording is crystal clear, and brings the listener right into the studio. The band is tighter than tight!

Congratulations on a true masterpiece! If this doesn’t bring home a Grammy, there is something seriously wrong with!

This album is truly a five-star masterpiece. Bernie Dressel has crafted a sensational sound and an exceptional overall package. The standout feature of this album is its impeccable recording. Simply put, when I put it on the turntable, add a bit of volume, and voila! A fantastic big band sound fills the room. Well done, Bernie!

    Wow!!!

Bernie Dresel and the band came out of the shoot like a locomotive on rocket fuel. They are a force of nature that blew me away.

The recording is flawless, the noise floor is super quiet. Excellent pressing.
And the soundstage. Perfect in every way.

Back in the old days – yeah, I’m that old – Bernie and the band would hit the road, traveling round the country playing every gin joint from here to there and picking up a legion of new fans along the way.

Hope there are plans to follow up Number One Son with Number Two Son. A second album is on my must-buy list.

wow!—Some of the LA Bands over the years have been amazing and so underappreciated, i.e. Terry Giibbs, Oliver Nelson, Gerald Wilson, Bob Florence etc, then there are some great studio bands put together to record (Bud Shank Big Band back in the 60’s, Marty Paitch etc).. and now for the next gen (Gordon Goodwin for one) ..AND NOW THE BBB !!!!. This is AS OUTSTANDING a record both musically and sonically as I have EVER HEARD..(and I’ve heard a lot). Kudos to all involved. It begins with the players. TO record this live, all analog straight to tape is not easy, you did it amazing well. Without the playling, arranging and soloists, all the great sound means nothing. I HOPE THERE IS A FOLLOW UP!!!
Thanks Bernie and the gang…… LOVE THIS RECORD!.. A MILLION STARS!

Number One Son by The BBB is pure fire! Showcasing three original compositions and five classic standards, N.O.S. delivers impeccably tight ensemble playing and virtuosic soloing from this seventeen piece band. Various band members deliver dynamic arrangements full of surprising twists and turns flawlessly executed by each member.

All of this is immaculately captured in the recording process and the final product is the perfect presentation of a large jazz ensemble in all its analog glory.

The quality of the vinyl and packaging are absolutely first rate. Kudos to Soundscapes Media for the intense passion and detail that they put into presenting this music.

Number One Son is a must have for the jazz fan and vinyl / audiophile enthusiast and, if you’re new to collecting jazz or vinyl I can’t think of a better place to start. I know this album will be spending a lot of time on my turntable!

“And you can be sure this record will blast your woofers and your tweeters or your panels, or your ribbons, or your horns into sonic outer space and throw you back in your chair like the Maxell kid who by now must be a grandfather himself.”
